Oswestry School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for pupils between the ages of 4 and 18.
Founded in 1407, it is one of the oldest non-denominational schools in the country and stands on the edge of the attractive market town of Oswestry, in Shropshire, on the border of England and Wales. It is set in 50 acres of its own grounds and boasts some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain on its doorstep.
Historical it may be, with many traditional virtues encouraged, but Oswestry is also a warm, caring and progressive school which constantly evolves with the times.
Oswestry School is a small, independent, co-educational boarding and day school in Shropshire. We strive to educate the whole child with an emphasis on their intellectual, spiritual and physical development.
Oswestry School places a very high emphasis on good manners and personal integrity; we are not ashamed of our traditional approach to pastoral care and we enjoy close relationships between pupils and staff.
Our aim is for our pupils to enjoy their education and to learn in a happy environment. Oswestry School is a very tight-knit community which celebrates the individual and aims to encourage all pupils to reach their potential.
An All-Round Education
We are extremely proud of the 360° education we provide, achieving excellent academic results and offering a wide variety of sports to suit everyone, with first-class coaching and facilities provided.
Teaching of the highest standard takes places in classrooms benefiting from the latest technology.
The school enjoys a proud tradition of music and drama, and art has always been a popular pastime for Oswestrians with several exhibitions held each year.
There is an active Adventure Education Department including The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and the Combined Cadet Force which offer opportunities to develop leadership skills, self-reliance and responsibility.
A wealth of activities, trips and expeditions play a central role in broadening our pupils’ experience.
Bellan House for children aged 4 to 11
Bellan House is our preparatory department and this excellent school offers small classes and specialist teaching in all areas, ensuring very high standards. The pupils enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities and the School offers a full wrap around service of before and after school care.

A word from the Headmaster
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Oswestry School website which will, I trust, give a flavour of the values which have been encouraged here for more than six centuries.
Our primary aim is to provide a truly all-round education, where boys and girls can develop their knowledge, confidence and respect for others in a warm, pastoral environment. We measure success not in league tables but in the value added to each individual. Pupils leave Oswestry as academically successful, happy, caring and grounded individuals prepared for the world before them, as befits the school’s motto, ‘we learn not for school, but for life’.
Oswestry School sits in fifty acres of open space within the rural county of Shropshire, with access to the Welsh countryside whilst also benefiting from excellent travel connections which keeps London’s airports within three hours and Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and Bristol even closer at hand.
This is a special place to live and to learn. This website provides a small window on our world. If you are unfamiliar with the school or have not recently visited, please do join us in our safe and warmly welcoming community. I look forward to meeting you.Julian Noad, Headmaster
