Table Tennis teams narrowly miss out at county finals
Four table tennis teams recently took part in the county finals at Telford Langley School. Our U19 team, Hoydi Leung, Brian Hung, Omar Elbasyouny and Valentin Metzger, were runners up losing 2-6 to a very strong Concord College team, before landing the silver medals with a 5-3 win. All four played well and Concord have agreed to play a fixture in the new year; something to look forward to.
The U15A team, José Portales Sanfuentes, Jaime Bendersky Kohan, Listzt Lex-Oudakron and Mark Samsittikul, won their group beating Thomas Telford B by 7-1 and Oldbury Wells 4-0. However, in the semi-finals Thomas Telford A proved too strong we went down 0-4. The team also lost out in the 3rd/4th place match to Adams Grammar 1-3 with Jose winning the one point.
Our U15B team, Mykhaiko Frenkel, Illia Frenkel, Dāgs Stepanovs and Andrey Rudenko, were drawn in a very strong group that included Thomas Telford A. They took some very heavy losses in true Oswestrian good grace including a 0-15 and 2-15.
The U13 team, Connor Owen, Tommy Bromage, Hamish Coutts-Britton and Jamie Faulks, were also drawn in a strong group. They lost 3-5 to Thomas Telford B before drawing with Oldbury Wells A 4-4. However, the boys went to the semi-finals, but Thomas Telford A proved a step too far going down 0-4 - Connor’s first defeat of the tournament. In the 3rd/4th match they came up against old rivals Thomas Telford B and it was down to the final game between the top two players. Connor fought back to level at 9-9 before losing out 12-15.
