Oswestry School Pupil Rides for Wales

Tara Severs, Lower Sixth pupil has recently ridden for Wales in an Inter-Regional dressage event at The College Equestrian Centre at Keysoe in Bedfordshire. She was chosen to compete in the Under 25 Welsh team along with 16 other talented riders for the title of Regional Champions. Over 30 teams were involved from 8 different regions with more than 140 young riders taking part in the 2 day event.

Tara's journey to ride for Wales started at a British Young Riders Dressage Scheme squad training session earlier this year. Having gone through several trials Tara was put forward to the Wales team co-ordinator, Sue Harrison, where she went through more rigorous tests before being chosen for the team.

When asked about how Tara started dressage she said "I learnt to ride when I was 5 and have been competing since the age of 12. Competitions are held all over the country and there is a lot of travelling involved. Being chosen to represent Wales with my pony Brennin at this dressage competition has been the highlight of my riding career so far. I am looking forward to the next competition and my goal is to qualify for the winter regionals".

Headmaster, Mr Julian Noad, said, "Oswestry School is very proud of Tara and her achievements and we are delighted to have such an accomplished horsewoman amongst us. The school has a successful equestrian team who compete locally and we are continuing to develop our links with nearby riding centres. We wish Tara every success with her future dressage competitions".
