Armed Forces Covenant signing

The Headmaster and Mrs Noad recently attended a formal ceremony at RAF Shawbury to sign the Armed Forces Covenant

The Covenant is a pledge or promise from the nation to those who serve, or have served, and their families, which says we will do all we can to ensure they are treated fairly and not disadvantaged in their day-to-day lives. It is signed by businesses and charitable organisations who wish to demonstrate their support for the Armed Forces community. The government is committed to supporting the Armed Forces community by working with a range of partners who have signed the Armed Forces Covenant. The Covenant brings together the government, businesses, local authorities, charities and the public in order to support those who serve.

Our school have made a range of written promises to set out our support to members of the Armed Forces community who may consider sending, or who already have, children at Oswestry School.

We have committed to endeavour to uphold the key principles of the Armed Forces Covenant which are that no member of the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen, and that in some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate especially for the injured or bereaved.

We have also pledged to recognise the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families bring to the school and we will promote the fact that we are an Armed Forces-friendly organisation. In this we shall strive to support the employment of Service spouses and partners along with offering a degree of flexibility in granting leave for Service spouses and partners before, during and after a partner's deployment. We shall also seek to support employees who choose to be members of the Reserve forces, offer support to our local cadet units, aim to participate in Armed Forces Day and offer specific discounted boarding places for children of serving Armed Forces personnel.
