Year 5 Trip to Stratford, June 2018

Year 5 have just returned from a packed and exciting three day residential trip to Stratford upon Avon. This trip is organised to complement and enhance the Literacy and Humanities curriculum studied in Year 5 at Bellan House. Whilst in Stratford the children explored the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, enjoying a sneak preview behind the scenes in a backstage tour and working with one of the RSC's actors in a workshop based on Macbeth.

The children were certainly not short of things to do. At Warwick Castle they enjoyed learning about the history of the Castle, as well as watching falconry displays and finding their way in the Horrible Histories Maze.

The children also spent a day at Mary Arden's Farm where they were transformed from 21st Century children to those that lived in Tudor times. In costume they made bread and lavendar bags, painted a wall hanging and learnt about the herbs that were used in Tudor time. The afternoon ended with the whole class learning a Tudor dance.

Also squeezed into the packed itinerary was a visit to the local fire station which was kindly organised by one of the Year 5 parents. The children loved meeting the firemen and seeing all the equipment used, but the higlight had to be having a go at using the fire hose! The beautiful Georgian Youth Hostel on the outskirts of Stratford provided a super base for all the activities and the staff there could not have been more accommodating.
