The Evanson Shield 2018
The Evanson Shield, named in honour of the former Contingents Head, Ray Evanson, had an unusual twist this year as it was hosted on the school site. Some 'outside the box' thinking from the staff and the Contingents Seniors resulted in the school being able to present a competition of 9 stands that still met the demands of previous competitions; all this despite not being at our normal site of Nesscliffe.
6 groups of Fourth Form cadets, led by Fifth Form NCOs who had been training since January for the competition, took part in stands testing their ability to work as a team, shoot, problem solve, apply first aid and plan and carry a stretcher over an obstacle course.
In a close and hotly contested competition Peter Taylor's Section emerged winners.
Combined with the competition the Contingent also had it's biennial inspection carried out by Col. Kim Knutton OBE whose job it is to make sure the CCF is upholding the values and ethos of the establishment. This, he said, we are doing with aplomb.
Col. Kim was joined by Mr Brian Kilty of the Infantry junior Leaders Battalion Association with whom our contingent have close links. As part of the day the 'Presidents Cup' which was presented to us by the IJLB Association was awarded to Fran Jones for the year 2015-2016 and Holly Tomley for the year 2016-2017.
