Jenny awarded Young Speaker of the Year Award 2015
Third Form pupil, Jenny Cyffin-Jones, recently attended the English Speaking Board’s Young Speaker of the Year 2015 award ceremony which was held at Highbury Hall in Birmingham, the childhood home of Neville Chamberlain.
Jenny began her journey in June after receiving a distinction in her English Speaking Board examination. She has now been named as the top achieving pupil nationally for the Senior One examination. Furthermore she has been selected as an ‘Example of Excellence’. Jenny and her family enjoyed a VIP reception at Highbury Hall before Jenny was presented with her award by the Chief Executive of the English Speaking Board, Peter Wren, and Educating Yorkshire’s Matthew Burton.
Following the ceremony the winners gave their award-winning talks to the other attendees; once again Jenny was able to take the opportunity to engage with her audience.
All at Oswestry School are very proud of Jenny's tremendous achievement. Mrs Price, Head of Drama, who attended the ceremony with Jenny and her family commented, “Jenny worked terrifically hard for her examination and this award is well-deserved. Oswestry School has a rich history of promoting public speaking, debating and drama and seeing the positive effect it has on increasing pupils’ confidence is remarkable.”
