CCF Half-Term Adventures

Senior members of the school's Cadet Force took full advantage of a number of challenging and exciting opportunities over the half term break.

Four attended the Cadet Centre for Adventurous Training's ski courses which are held in Bavaria each year and undertook formal instruction in either the Ski Foundation or Intermediate courses.  Ben Dugan who is working towards his British Association of Ski Instructors Level 2 Instructors Award also used the opportunity to gain valuable logbook experience.  The week was intense with 7 hours a day of skiing over 6 days.

norwayThree other cadets travelled to Norway to undertake an ice climbing experience which was also hosted by CCAT and centered on the town of Rjukan.  They went from ice climbing beginners to competent practitioners over the week with all of them eventually leading a climb on the ice which meant putting ice screws in to keep them safe in the event of a fall as well as setting up a strong point to bring up their partner.

Jasmine Tickner attended a week long course at the Royal Signals School in Blandford where she undertook more advanced, and cerebral, training in the use and working of the radio equipment we now have at school. The national course has a high number of applicants and is very testing with a formal exam at the end.  Jasmine passed and is now an advanced signaller - one of only two in the contingent.
