Founder's celebrations 2017
Founder's weekend was a remarkable success this year. The celebrations kicked off in Wilsons at 6pm on Friday evening where the bar was packed out with Old Oswestrians meeting up for pre-dinner drinks and cocktails. At 7.30pm everyone moved across to the Pavilion Suite in the Wynnstay Hotel and enjoyed fine food and dancing until the early hours.
Thanks to all those who supported the dinner this year, an astonishing £470 was raised from the heads or tails game (with a twist). An album of photographs from the evening can be found here. Make sure to put the date in your diary for next year - Saturday 24 November!
Saturday morning dawned with the annual service in St Oswald's Parish Church with guest preacher Dr Bill Prevette, a professor at Oxford Centre of Mission Studies with a focus on Human trafficking and at-risk youth. The church was full with standing room only as Gaude Plebs rang out among the rafters. It was delightful to see so many Old Oswestrian faces in the pews.
The bitterly cold weather and moments of sleet didn't deter the sports teams during the afternoon and the Old Oswestrians came out in new kits to play the School. Youth was victorious this year: Bog Run - Oswestry School Netball - Oswestry School Football 1st XI - Oswestry School (penalties) Football 2nd XI - Oswestry School Hockey - Old Oswestrians (0-0 draw). An album of the day's photographs can be found here.
Spectators were kept warm on the sidelines with pulled pork baps and chilli while OO Izzy Tomley put up her Garden Bar and served prosecco and mulled wine.
