OOs meet up to discuss 2017 reunion
During the past month, John Elmhirst (1962-67 - formerly Elmhirst-Baxter) dropped in to see John Batchlor and Steve Hodge (1964-71) in Cheltenham.
John and Steve had not seen John Elmhirst for a mere 49 years so a lot of reminiscing went on, most of which started “and do you remember…………………………..”. They dined out at the “New Club” in Cheltenham (which was established in 1874, only 467 years after David Holbache founded Oswestry School.
On leaving school, John Elmhirst joined the Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth for Officer training but soon realised his forte was in engineering where he progressed to the Royal Naval Engineering College at Manadon. Since then, John has remained in engineering and is presently living in Devon but working for the Renishaw Group in Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire.
Later in that same week, John and Steve had another meeting (over lunch in Birmingham) with Alistair Wood (1963-68), Mark Yeomans (1959-65) and Harry Warren. Harry and Mark, who hailed from Birmingham, were school-house boarders.
The reason for these meetings, apart from a little good humour and “Bonhomie”, was as a prelude to the reunion that will take place on 16th September 2017, at Oswestry School, marking the 50th anniversary of leaving school in 1967. There has been a lot of research into OO`s from this era and there is a fantastic response, please keep looking at this website for further news and details.
