Founder's Weekend 2014 AGM, OO Dinner & Church Service
Thank you to all who attended a wonderful Founder's Weekend.
FRIDAY 28th NOVEMBER
Hilary James stepped down from the committee after 28 years and John Croft and Millie Evans were welcomed as new committee members. Joy Griffiths was invited to remain as President for a second year and Sarah Marshall was officially proposed as the OO secretary.
After a ballot vote, it was decided to use the OO logo rather than the school shield for the Old Oswestrian Society.
Over 120 Old Oswestrians gathered on the evening of Friday 28th November to celebrate Founder’s Day Dinner. This year’s guest speaker was Paul Isaac, the son of the late Rev Eddie Isaac, who entertained the Old Boys and Girls with tales of his father’s happy times at Oswestry.
The Lady President, Joy Griffiths made a special toast to the unique occasion of having two sets of three generations of Old Oswestrians present at the Dinner, both from local farming families; the Tomley and Kempsters/ Roberts families.
As well as the raffle, a special prize was auctioned to visit RAF Brize Norton raising funds for the School. A enjoyable evening amongst old school friends was had by all. For more photos, see the School's Facebook page.
SATURDAY 29TH NOVEMBER
Founder's Day Church Service
St Oswald's was packed for the traditional Founder's Day Church Service and welcomed guest preacher and Old Oswestrian, Tim Mullings for an engaging sermon. There were some wonderful performances from the Bellan House and Senior School choirs, each featuring confident and accomplished soloists. Being a border school, there was the obligatory competition between 'Bread of Heaven' and 'Jerusalem', but of course the School hymn, 'Gaude Plebs' won out on the volume front!
